AFEA as a key player in the organization of virtual & hybrid meetings

11/01/2021

It is our duty to adapt immediately to any rapid change in our industry and to be able to support our clients effectively under any circumstances. In this world-changing crisis, AFEA managed to meet and exceed expectations, organizing a significant number of important virtual and hybrid scientific conferences in 2020, establishing its position in the "new reality" in the meetings industry. The following conferences are mentioned indicatively and were supported with integrated organizational, technological and communication services:

29th Panhellenic Congress of the Hellenic Throracic Society - Virtual Congress
Just a few days prior to the ending of 2020, AFEA team had the honor to support the 29th Panhellenic Congress of the Hellenic Thoracic Society, organized as a Virtual Congress with significant participation. The scientific program of the conference was presented during the course of 4 days, in 4 parallel “rooms” / studios with participation of over 160 distinguished speakers from the Greek and International scientific community and a record breaking attendance exceeding 2.000 registered participants. One of the many conference highlights was the “presence” of the Prime Minister Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who addressed a greeting to the conference committee and delegates during the Opening Ceremony and announced the commencement of the conference.

The 5th Panhellenic Scientific Symposium of Children and Adolescents Endocrine Problems - Hybrid Congress
The 5th Panhellenic Scientific Symposium of Children and Adolescents Endocrine Problems was held on October 30th – 31st 2020, at the Titania Hotel in Athens, as a hybrid meeting, with physical presence - strictly adhering to health protocols - as well as online participation, reaching 1,000 registrations. The scientific program of the Symposium was completed in 2 days and 16 educational hours, while it included a significant number of oral presentations and over 35 renowned speakers from all over Greece.

The 76th Congress of the Hellenic Association of Orthopaedic Surgery & Traumatology - Hybrid Congress
With the aim to support the vision of one of the oldest and biggest Scientific Societies of Greece and the continuation of educational and scientific activities as a primary concern, AFEA supported the Hellenic Association of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (HAOST), in the transformation of the Society's Annual Conference from hybrid to virtual within a very short period of time. The event took place on October 14-17, 2020 at the Divani Caravel Hotel in Athens and was completed with great success. 4 days of full scientific program, 2 studios in high-tech mode, more than 35 scientific hours, 200 speakers with physical presence and 400 speakers connecting virtually, more than 300 technical tests, 20 engaged leading sponsor companies, an expert team of more than 35 people and more than 1.200 live attendees, were the key elements of success. The role of AFEA PCO was significant in the rapid transformation of the event from hybrid to virtual in only few weeks time, as well as the organization and execution of such a complex and upscale virtual scientific meeting.

31st Panhellenic Congress of Greek Operating Room Nurses Association – Virtual Congress
One more demanding virtual meeting took place in September 2020, as AFEA organized the 31st Panhellenic Congress of Perioperative Nursing and implemented the digital transformation of the meeting in less than 3 weeks. In a 4-day educational program and with more than 70 sessions, 300 participants and international and national renowned guest speakers from America and Europe, the conference noted record attendance in its first virtual form. The educational sessions included, among other subjects, controversial and current issues in Perioperative Nursing, such as patient safety and quality provision at all levels of care, as well as the promotion of mental well-being of the perioperative team, during the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the virtual meeting highlights was the participation of Dr Sotiris Tsiodras, Professor of Medicine and Infectious Diseases at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Medical School and the Chief Scientific Advisor for the COVID-19 pandemic for the Hellenic CDC and the Greek Government during the live meeting broadcast.

It is very important to refer to the valuable support of the sponsor companies at all the above meetings, a fact that for once more “underlined” the positive intention to the further enhancement of the scientific education.
